Ratchet Straps

Ratchet straps, also sometimes known as tie down ratchet straps, cargo straps, lorry ratchet straps or ratchet lashing straps, are high strength and durable fixings for securing and moving large and heavy objects. They are available in different lengths, widths and braking strengths including 800kg, 1500kg, 2000kg, 3000kg, 5000kg and 10,000kg.

You should use UK ratchet straps when transporting loads in or on the backs of vehicles or for securing general cargo when there is a risk of movement or falling. It is vital to make sure that any ratchet straps you’re using are secure before you set off. Failure to do so could result in damage or danger to persons or property.

Weight capacity of ratchet straps UK

One of the most important things to consider is the weight of the load you’re strapping down. You need to know how much your cargo weighs and use a suitable type and number of ratchet straps to secure it. The safe working load limit (WLL) will be clearly identified on the packaging and strap itself. To safely secure a load, the combined WLL must be greater than the weight of the load itself. It’s always recommended to use ratchet straps in pairs.

Length of ratchet straps

Ratchet straps need to be long enough to reach from tie down point to tie down point or to at least safely secure a load to a suitable fixing. If the ratchet straps are too short they will not offer a secure fixing. Any excess strap must be securely fastened to stop it coming loose and flapping when on the move.

Ratchet Strap UK End Fittings

We supply a range of ends fittings for different fixing points to suit your needs including;

Claw Hook Ratchet Straps

The most commonly used type of all ratchet straps is the claw hook also known as double J-claw hook designed to be easily secured to anchor points or the chassis of the vehicle itself.

Chassis Hook Ratchet Straps

These heavy duty straps also known as open rave hook straps are specifically designed to attach to the body of the vehicle using the chassis as the anchor point.

Endless Ratchet Straps

A ratchet strap without hooks or end fittings ideal for securing loads to roof racks or binding together where fixing points are not required.

Ergonomic Ratchet Straps

Allows the user to pull the ratchet handle down rather that up thus making it easier putting less stress on the shoulders and back when tensioning the ratchet strap.

Flat or Twisted Snap Hook Ratchet Straps

A flat or 90 degree twisted heavy duty hook that fits over specific anchor points on vehicles and trailers with a spring loaded clasp/gate to prevent the straps coming off during transit.

E-track Ratchet Strap

E-type ratchet straps are used in-conjunction with box bodied vehicles fitted with internal E-Tracks.

D-Ring Ratchet Straps

Specifically designed D-shaped metal end fitting that fits over hooks and dedicated anchor points.

Tightening devices

Ratchet straps allows you to use the ratchet to make the strap tight and secure. Use the lever to repeatedly tighten the strap until you’re sure your load is secure. Ratchet straps are easier to tighten than cam buckle straps, winch straps and other securing mechanisms.

There is also a range of protective accessories to help protect your load including plastic corner protectors and heavy duty wear sleeves to protect the ratchet strap webbing and increase longevity.
